The Fine Line

For those of us who like to plan, organize, and stay ahead of things, it can be frustrating to watch others work right up to the deadline. I remember golfing with a group where one friend was always late. We would arrive at the agreed time and she’d just be starting breakfast. Eventually, we adjusted. Not out of frustration, but because we needed to keep moving.

It’s easy to label that behaviour as poor planning or lack of discipline.
But often, procrastination is something else entirely. It can be a way of coping. Avoiding a task because of how it feels overwhelming… frustrating… uncertain.

The challenge is that avoidance doesn’t remove the stress. It quietly increases it. What starts as a small delay can grow into something heavier - mentally and emotionally.

So what do we do when everything feels like too much? When even getting started feels difficult? Sometimes the first step isn’t solving the whole problem - it’s simply pausing. Taking a breath. Creating a small moment of space. And then asking: what is one thing I can do right now?

Not everything needs to be solved today. But sometimes even that small beginning can make the end result appear within reach.
