Retirement: It's Never Just About Money

For many, retirement was once seen as the end goal.A time when the pressure of work would ease and life would open up in new and meaningful ways. For years, the message was clear - plan well, save enough, and everything would fall into place. But for many, the path has not been that simple.Careers were interrupted. Markets shifted. Costs rose.

So now, the plans we thought we had made, have to be revisited. It’s natural in times like this to focus on the financial side of retirement. The cost of living is heading up and once up, it rarely comes back down. But there is another part of the conversation that is often overlooked.

Purpose. Because retirement is not just about how we support ourselves but how we spend our days. The structure that work once provided is no longer there. And while that freedom can feel welcome at first, it can also feel unfamiliar over time. The things we imagine filling our days - travel, hobbies, time spent with family may shift, change, or become less central.

So the question becomes - What now? Not in a way that creates pressure but in a way that invites reflection. What brings a sense of meaning to your day?
What feels engaging, even in small ways? What kind of rhythm would feel good for you now?

For some, that may include part-time work or a small “next chapter” project. For others, it may be creating a routine that blends activity, connection, and rest.
