It’s a line from "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig, and it caught my attention.
It’s easy these days to feel that the weight we’re carrying is getting heavier. If you’re a Gen Xer or Millennial, you may be facing many of the same challenges I did as a Boomer - job uncertainty, rising costs, family responsibilities, and that quiet question of “what next?” and not always in a reassuring way. And this may sound simple … but finding one small thing in your day can make a difference.
Yesterday, it poured rain. There was thunder and lightning. I happen to love a good thunderstorm but with rising water levels and after a long, cold winter, it felt like more than people needed. Later, the rain stopped, so I went for a walk with my dog - something I do every day. It was still cloudy, but mild. And just as we were heading home, the sun came out. I turned my face toward it, felt the warmth, and for a moment, everything felt a little lighter. It may sound corny finding joy in a bit of sunshine. But sometimes, a small moment of warmth can ease a little fear, a little doubt, a little sadness.
Small things, gathered with care, matter more than we think.
