Friends are invaluable. They know our stories. They remember what we went through five years ago. They’ve seen patterns we may not see ourselves.
But sometimes we don’t want our entire history brought into the conversation. Sometimes we just want to talk about what is happening right now. The decision in front of us. The opportunity we’re considering. The question we’re quietly holding.
Yesterday, a neighbour and her friend reached out to me. They’re opening a café and wanted a second opinion — even though they already had each other. It reminded me of something simple: Sometimes we seek another perspective not because our friends aren’t enough but because a fresh set of eyes can help us see more clearly.
There’s value in people who know our past. And there’s value in people who meet us exactly where we are today. Both matter.
